THE RACONTEUR: SERIES 1: MY ENTREPRENEURSHIP JOURNEY ~ HALF YEAR (2023) SCORECARD

They say that by telling stories, you can more effectively accomplish the objectives of teaching, mobilizing, and motivating than you can through bullet points in a PowerPoint presentation or tweets on a mobile device. As a story-teller, I have decided to walk my audience through varied Story-telling Series of weekly episodes. I hope that you will pick some wisdom that comes from experience and lessons learned that I’ll share on my:

SERIES 1: MY ENTREPRENEURSHIP JOURNEY ~ HALF YEAR (2023) SCORECARD

The pilot Series is my 2023 Scorecard. At the beginning of January 2023, my New Year Resolution was to get clarity and a focus in a bid to reclaim my passion, purpose and life’s path. The only way to do this was to go into a SOLITUDE DIET. According to the Oxford Dictionary, Solitude is “the state or situation of being alone.” I intentionally minimised or got rid of all kinds of relationships that could be sacrificed without altering the purpose and meaning of my life. The seclusion has helped me to get a clear, quantified, tangible sense of where my personal and professional life is headed. 

Relationships such as: friendship, agency, romantic, quasi-professional, neck-of-the-woods, and random social, were neatly packed and placed on the shelf. I preferred working in solitary and doing the most important tasks that could bring me closer to my goals. Even the obligatory family relationship got a raw deal. I thank my parents and children for understanding that I had to do what I had to do. 

Smart time management strategies that I employed during this time included: turning off the ringer on my phone; turning off e-mail and social media notifications; and turning off anything that had the potential to distract me from what that I was working on. It has not been easy to tell people why my phone is off or remain unanswered during a specific time period every day. Friends and family members couldn’t just “get it.” But I had to set boundaries with everyone, whether they understood it or not. It is important that I remained focused and in fidelity to my New Year Resolution. 

The impact of going “solitude” has been profound! I learnt that stillness is the language God speaks and everything else is a bad translation! The fire in my belly has been fuelling my intrinsic motivation to get out of bed in the morning; work late at night; move forward; and make progress, no matter what stands in my way. 

There are about 10 outcomes within these past 6 months that I achieved from my “Solitude Diet.” In the coming Episodes of this Series, I will lay it all bare.
